Steps (Stufen)
Like every flower fades and like every youth
Yields to age, blooms every step of life,
All wisdom also flourishes and all virtue
In time, and it cannot last forever.
The heart must, in every calling of life,
Be ready for parting and for a new beginning,
To give oneself, in courage and without any
Mourning, to other new connections.
And in every beginning lies a charm of its own
Who protects us and helps us to live.
Let's calmly transpose space to space
And we don't attach ourselves to any like a homeland.
The spirit of the world does not want to bind or compress us,
He wants to elevate us step by step, spread us out.
We barely got used to being intimate
From an environment, it threatens to relax.
Only those who are ready to leave and travel
You can elude the paralyzing habit.
Does the hour of death still send us
In search of new spaces,
The cry of life for us will never cease...
Hey, then, heart, say goodbye and convalesce!
